Beach House: rental details
(back to Beach House)
Dr Robin Barclay by e-mail or by telephone (+44 131 663 1138) for rental payment details or any enquiries.
Beach House is let for 1 week blocks from Saturday (2pm entry) to Saturday (11 am quit). The minimum rental is one week, and the maximum is three (except by negotiation). The lets are intended for holiday and leisure use only. Lets will not be considered as temporary interim accomodation or as business/work accomodation. Part-weeks will be charged as full weeks, but outside peak times (summer) it may be possible to charge by the day pro rata for rentals of more than one week, by negotiation.
Rental price and reservation:
The price per week is £420 (GBP). To hold a reservation a non-refundable deposit of £60 per week is payable immediately. The balance of £360 per week must be paid in advance of occupancy, ideally around one month before arrival.
Payment should be made by bank transfer (net of any bank fees and charges for international transfers) to our bank account, details on application.
The house will be cleaned for your arrival, and fresh linen (bedding and towels) are supplied. Please use your own towels for the beach or swimming pool. It is the custom for family and guests to leave non-perishable food for subsequent guests, so use what you like and any replacement with equivalent (non-perishable) foods will be appreciated. We do not charge for cleaning or take a deposit for breakages, so it will be appreciated if you leave the house clean and tidy and notify us of breakages (so that items can be replaced or fixed). Cleaning materials and equipment are provided.
If anything breaks down or wears out we will not charge for that, but we would appreciate it if you notify us of any faults and problems which you notice. Your local factor will provide his contact details for this (an instruction sheet will be left), so call him if something needs fixed or explained.
Please discard any perishable foods from the cupboards and fridge before you leave, and remove your toiletries.
Electricity, moderate telephone use and broadband internet are included in your rental - but excessive and/or expensive telephone use will be charged if found when bills are examined.
While we will not deny access to dog owners who need to bring their pets, we do not encourage you to bring dogs - and if you do, you must keep them out of bedrooms, off furniture and seating, and clean up all traces of them before leaving (consider that some subsequent guests may be allergic to dogs).
You should not permit dog fouling in or around the house and garden, and remove dog fouling from public areas, paths and beaches.
Also note that much of the land around the villages in Shetland is now fenced, and most hill land is grazed by sheep (common grazing or farmed), so there is little opportunity for dogs to run free. Sheep owners take a dim view of dogs roaming through their herds, and might take extreme measures if dogs are deemed to be out of control and a danger to livestock.
